POSITION SUMMARY:
The Personal Support Workers – Wellington Terrace Supportive Housing (PSW-WT) enhance the quality of life of SJHC clients by providing quality and compassionate care in the form of personal care assistance, medication reminders, physical and cognitive support and home keeping assistance.  PSW-WT assists in enabling individuals to continue living independently in a safe and healthy manner in their own home/apartment units, within the Wellington Terrace program location and surrounding community.

Wellington Terrace Supportive Housing clients are typically able to direct their own care, are over the age of 65, require on average 1.5 hours of personal support care each day, and are medically stable.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assisting clients with daily personal care activities, in keeping with their individual care plan such as bathing, dressing, shaving, personal hair care, mouth care, preventative care and other personal hygiene tasks
  • Assisting clients with daily housekeeping activities such as light apartment housekeeping, laundry services and meal preparation
  • Assisting clients in daily activities which maintain adequate levels of physical health and safety, in keeping with their individual care plan
  • Medication reminders
  • Engaging clients in positive/social conversations
  • Encouraging clients to direct and/or participate in their own care
  • Assisting clients with general mobility needs (walking, movement, positioning etc.) in and around their home and the Wellington Terrace location
  • Encouraging participation in Wellington Terrace social and/or recreational activities
  • Demonstrating sensitivity and respect to clients who may be experiencing physical health challenges
  • Providing emotional and social support to both clients and their family members
  • Demonstrating a positive attitude and approach towards clients as unique individuals
  • Performs daily work in keeping with the established Supportive Housing procedures, processes and expectations
  • Answers call bells in a safe and timely manner
  • Observes and records client information/comments/issues/behaviours/changes on the 24 Hour Shift Report
  • Follows daily client care schedules as determined by the Support Services Coordinator
  • Maintains a clean and organized work environment
  • Reports critical client care information/issues to Support Services Coordinator right away
  • Understands and follows individual client care plans, seeks clarification from the Support Services Coordinator where care plan in unclear
  • Participating in team/group meetings
  • Other duties as requested or required
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • PSW Certificate from an accredited training institution, required
  • 1-3 years PSW experience, preferred
  • Member of the PSW Registry, preferred (may be required under some contracts)
  • Current First Aid and/or CPR Certificate, preferred
  • Training in gentle persuasive/non-violent crisis prevention, an asset
  • Training and previous work experience in Medication Reminders, preferred
  • Previous experience working in a Supportive Housing environment, as asset
  • Access to reliable transportation and vehicle insurance, required
  • Must be COVID 19 vaccinated
* While these are typical shifts there are no guarantees of hours, schedules may change from time to time to meet the needs of the clients.  Shifts are assigned as per the collective agreement ”

 4.01 (b) * A regular part-time employee shall mean an employee who is regularly scheduled to work up to forty-five (45) hours every two (2) weeks and who has made a commitment to be available to work, and to be scheduled to work, on a regular basis.
